September 11, 2025: I aspire to send weekly fan mail; I am so far from that, which made returning to it feel FANTASTIC. The above is an excerpt from Foster Kamer's newsletter, FOSTERTALK, one of many excellent publications my brethren in the Freelance Solidarity Project have led me to over the years. I read it soon after returning from a beloved's birthday celebration in Belize (my first trip - go! and bring binoculars, it's a bird paradise), where two fathers had small radios, which they bought due to locking buttons that allow their toddlers to fiddle with them without interfering with the sound. We used them to listen to the local station in stereo sound under our pier palapa, I asked a lot of questions about transistor radios, which a huge crush of mine recently mentioned in a postcard (allegedly, he's gifting me one), AND I got turned onto Radio Garden, an app that lets you tune into local stations all over the world. So, needless to say, I've started pumping Radioactive Sifnos, and boy, do I like it. Why not tell them, right? My hope is it'll incentivize finally getting to Greece sooner than later. I threatened/promised to visit in my postcard, naturally. Imagining a soulful nonprofit radio DJ writing me back makes my heart soar.
